Our Staff

Mrs Kathleen McCarthy - Principal

Welcome to Good Shepherd Catholic College! This is a vibrant and faith-filled learning community, with a focus on academic excellence and pastoral care. At Good Shepherd, we encourage our students to experience the community, live the values and achieve success. Our students know that whatever they aspire to do post-school, we will help them plan for their future and give them the foundations to reach their potential. Many of our graduates go onto University to study in areas such as Engineering, Medicine, Education and Business. Vocational Education and Training is a popular pathway also at Good Shepherd, with students going on to do apprenticeships and further qualifications in Hospitality, Business Administration and Hairdressing.

Our Pastoral Care program aims to support our students during their learning journey with well-being programs, social and emotional skills and individualised care and attention from their Homeroom Teachers and Pastoral Leaders. We also have a full-time counsellor and are well supported by Student Support Services from the Townsville Catholic Education Office.

The Vision of our College is "To journey together in faith with 'Christ our Light', educating and empowering young people". Through our Religious Education and Pastoral Care programs, we aim to foster the faith and spirituality of our students, celebrating the Gospel values of truth, justice, hope and love.

We look forward to welcoming you to Good Shepherd Catholic College.

Mrs Samantha Kelley  - Deputy Principal (Teaching & Learning)

Teaching and Learning is one of our central pillars at Good Shepherd Catholic College. The students, parents and families are placed firmly in the centre of all decision making in terms of student development to ensure success as lifelong learners.

Good Shepherd Catholic College is dedicated to developing holistic students that are prepared for success within and beyond their schooling life. There are a number of future pathways that students are adequately prepared for throughout their time with us, which is made possible through the vast range of Vocational Education & Training (VET) courses offered, School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship opportunities, as well as academic subjects in preparation for university pathways.

Fostering the Catholic life and identity of the school is a vital part of my role at Good Shepherd. I joined this community in 2015 and since then I have been committed to making a difference with engaging and insightful teaching and learning experiences, occurring both within and outside of the classroom. I have fallen in love with the friendly and inviting nature of Mount Isa in my time here and have found the connection that the College has with the Parish and Community a very rewarding one to be apart of.

I am blessed to work closely with a very dedicated and knowledgeable Curriculum Leadership team to foster the growth of pedagogy, ensuring that theory and practice is of high quality to influence the social, political and psychological development of learners.

I look forward to working with you all this year as we tackle our aspirations and goals together.

"Dear young people, do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things!" Pope Francis

For the young people, education is the key to their future. It is an opportunity to develop God's gifts; and with the right tools, it will provide the courage to dream and achieve these great things! As a community, we need to work together to provide students with the best possible opportunities to succeed, and I encourage families to engage in the life of the College in any way you can.

Each day we work together to live out our Vision, "to journey together in faith with "Christ our light", educating and empowering young people to experience the community, live the values and achieve success. As a College, we will continue to strive for excellence, to provide students with a quality Catholic Education, to empower them to live out our vision and mission.

I joined the Good Shepherd Community at the beginning of 2009, and have had the privilege of witnessing so many of our students achieve greatness. From this time, I begin each day looking forward to witnessing the bright future our students are working towards!

As a community of learners, we can achieve anything we set our minds to. We welcome all to walk this journey with us, and we look forward to working with you all.

Mrs Jacqueline Warren - Assistant Principal (Religious Education)

Good Shepherd Catholic College's vision is 'to journey together in faith with "Christ our light", educating and empowering young people to experience the community, live the values and achieve success.'

As a College we aim to foster the faith and spirituality of each student and guide them on their personal journey of growth. We believe that a holistic education enables students to learn more about who they are, how they can contribute to our community, as well as developing their own spirituality and academic ability. Through the Religious Life of the College (including liturgies, masses, retreats and social justice initiatives) and the Religious Education Program we support students in this endeavour.

The Religious Education teaching team is comprised of a dedicated and enthusiastic group of teachers who aim to provide relevant and exciting learning opportunities for students in all areas of the RE Curriculum.

I joined the Good Shepherd Catholic community over 7 years ago and have been the Assistant Principal of Religious Education since 2016. I feel blessed to work in a College where students engage in, and participate in, all aspects of the Religious Life of the College with respect, reverence and enthusiasm.

We look forward to welcoming you to our College community.
